It would be great if Akonadi could announce new messages via the Message Indicator plasmoid (package named plasma-widget-message-indicator on Ubuntu). This would allow me to quickly be notified of new emails.

There is a new New Mail Notifier Agent in KDE 4.11 that uses native KDE notifications.
