Description Dennis Schridde 2012-12-16 15:40:01 UTC
Currently, whenever I open a mailbox with KMail/Kontact, it seems to retrieve the complete folder contents from Akonadi. This often takes a long time (several seconds up to half a minute), during which the messages displayed by Kontact are moving around, while they are being sorted and collated into threads. This makes it hard or impossible to view them during that time.

The email sorting (i.e. by date, arrival time, or whatever is selected in Kontact) could be done within Akonadi itself. Then it would be possible for applications like Kontact to query just a subset of the messages within the mailbox, i.e. those that will actually be displayed.

I expect that this would solve the annoying moving-messages problem and also speed up display in general. As a further enhancement Kontact could also prefetch messages that are not yet displayed - i.e. progressively request the rest of the mailbox.

Reproducible: Always
