When I enter the mail client, I would like all the groups in the list to be expanded by default. Please add an option to do this.

finally you can in aggregation
but was buggy and fixed it in 4.10

Kmail -> Settings -> Appearence -> Message List -> Default Aggregation
 "Groups & threading": "Group expand policy" to "Always expand groups"
