Sentry Crash Report:

Description Dion Moult 2012-11-26 23:16:09 UTC
Dragging and dropping across a splitview of multiple files of more than one file type no longer works.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Split the view
2. In left pane, select more than one file which are different file types
3. Drag and drop to the right view
Actual Results:
The cursor will have a "Cancel" icon indicating you cannot drop it and letting go the mouse button does nothing.

Expected Results:
It should show the plus icon and when you let go, show you the menu to copy/move etc.

Works if the multiple files are the same filetype

Thanks for the report, but I can't reproduce. Maybe it depends on the view mode/sorting options/grouping? I tried a couple of things, but did not see the bug. Please try to provide more details, and tell us what your KDE/Qt version is. A screenshot might also be helpful. Thanks.

Interesting, I did a little bit more study and apparently it only happens if the split view that you are dragging _from_ has preview turned on.

I have view mode icons, and sort by type, but changing either of those doesn't affect it.

Thanks for the quick reply, but I still cannot reproduce. Maybe it depends on the particular file types?

I am trying with a html and jpg file. Oddly enough it also works with some other html and jpg files.

I have selected two files where it always exhibits the failure for me, and uploaded them here: http://thinkmoult.com/private/tmp/ - I have also tried redownloading them, moving to a separate directory, renaming them...no luck! Hopefully it helps you replicate the problem.

Copying a directory containing about 10,000 files and 19 subdirectories by drag and drop from an external disk.
/var/run/media/geoff/SAMSUNG/Geoff-20130408/Sort Out (D)
to
/home/geoff/
fails to copy all. Inconsistent numbers but no crashes.

The files are a mixture of types and filenames use English or Japanese.

Results: 949 files (instead of 10,000) copied, target renamed then repeating the copy got 1,055 files. I get two subdirectories copied, not 19.
I did copy all 10,000 files by selecting them, instead of the folder, and dragging and dropping them.

Folders with smaller numbers seem okay.

2.2
Linux (x86_64) release 3.7.10-1.1-desktop

PROPERTIES of the source also underreports as 3,365 files 16 sub-folders, (7.7GB).

I have a fresh and current (with a few things now added) installation of openSUSE 12.3.

A PROPERTIES test on the source directory with Dolphin and Krusader give different figures. Both change when a refresh is done.
Comment 7 Geoff Cutter 2013-04-10 23:52:31 UTC
Perhaps there is some problem in my case with the communications between the PC and the 1T external hard disk so it may be that Dolphin (and Krusader) is just reporting the errors it sees.

@Dion Moult:
Can you still reproduce this problem with the newest Dolphin?

I tested it with the files you have provided and with some other files - it worked without problems.
Comment 9 Frank Reininghaus 2013-10-04 08:44:00 UTC
Please reopen this report if the problem can be reproduced with Dolphin 4.11.2 or later. Thanks for your help.

@Geoff: your problem is probably unrelated to this report. If copying folders with Dolphin and Krusader does not work correctly for you, it's probably a problem with the KIO library.

Seems to work fine now :) Thanks very much.
