The map can be found at 
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d3/1589_Totius_Orbis_de_Jode.jpg (download the full resolution version). Instructions to create a map 
theme from it are at 
http://techbase.kde.org/Projects/Marble/HistoricalMaps . This map is already provided in Equirectangular projecftion so it should be relatively easy to convert

Status whiteboard should read "Ready for GHNS upload" then, I'd say.
