The backtrace says you were using the FlipSwitch effect invoked through a global shortcut. This does not match with what you wrote. Could you please clarify? crashes in "m_captionFrame->setText(m_selectedWindow->caption());" If there's no stack corruption, nor downstream padding (thus wrong code line) m_captionFrame has been used before, what means m_selectedWindow, set by effects->activeWindow(), is dead or rather NULL what was not checked by the effect in 4.8.5 but is atm. (in updateCaption()) By this, likely fixed by commit 05dbefec41215806443bc3c8f008d5a8043a7041 (In reply to comment #1) > The backtrace says you were using the FlipSwitch effect invoked through a > global shortcut. When kwin crashes it was like a reboot: during a moment the effects stopped, then the effects returned. The question was: what exactly were you doing _before_ it crashed. It looks like you pressed alt+tab, but you said different. W/o that information, you can only hope that i'm right in comment #2 (In reply to comment #4) > The question was: what exactly were you doing _before_ it crashed. > > It looks like you pressed alt+tab, but you said different. > W/o that information, you can only hope that i'm right in comment #2 Sorry, I don't remembrer exactly what I was doing. It was when I used a common dialog to open a file. I was programming a java aplication. The application shows a bug in the virtual machine: http://bugs.sun.com/view_bug.do?bug_id=7130662 but the solution doesn't works for me. I have problems with the halt function because the computer does not halts completly. I don't know if this is related. Without a way to reproduce we will never figure out how to cause the crash. Most likely it is fixed with the commit mentioned in comment #2. If you get the crash again please let us know what you exactly did.
