I recently replaced a SB X-Fi with nVidia GT610 using HDMI out for sound. I have several custom sound devices defined in .asoundrc. When the desktop initially loads, I am told that all the devices I have defined do not work and can be removed, and when I select "Manage devices" they are all grayed out. Issuing command "aplay -L" from a terminal lists all the defined devices properly and they all work when called explicitly from media players. If, however, I load .asoundrc in a text editor and then merely resave it, all the grayed out devices become active once again. This behavior repeats if I log out of KDE and then log back in.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Use nVidia GT610 HDMI as your only playback device (? or any other HDMI sound device?)
2. Log into KDE. 
3. Wait to be told that all your ".asoundrc" devices no longer work and can be removed.
3. Go to "Manage devices" and see that all the devices are grayed out.
4. Open ".asoundrc" in a text editor, and then re-save it.
5. Watch as all the grayed-out devices become active again.
Actual Results:

Expected Results:  
All defined devices should be active after login.

This behavior began after I started using HDMI out as playback device. It did not happen when I used SB X-fi for sound.

This is on openSUSE 12.1 x86_64, KDE 4.9, gstreamer backend. This is also using straight alsa, no PulseAudio.
