Description Marcus U 2012-09-06 22:45:30 UTC
On my laptop, I've got two keyboard layouts (one for US English for when I'm on the go, one for Dvorak when I'm at home and can use an external keyboard). Swithcing the layout works fine for typing stuff, but keyboard shortcuts are "stuck" in the old layout - undo (Ctrl+Z), for example, only works when I do it on the QWERTY keyboard oy my laptop (or Ctrl+; on the Dvorak keyboard).

I suppose it's kinda handy since most shortcuts appear to be optimised for QWERTY layouts but it would be nice to at least have an option to turn this behaviour off.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Switch keyboard layout (e.g. by clicking the layout indicator icon in the notification area)
2. Try to use a shortcut in any application
Actual Results:
Keyboard shortcuts only work if you enter them in a QWERTY keyboard (or press the buttons in exact some locations on the Dvorak keyboard).

Expected Results:
Keyboard shortcuts should map to the keys on the Dvorak layout.

Hello!

This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this bug has already been resolved in Plasma 5.

Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this bug report. If the issue described here is still present in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting

If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging

Thanks for your understanding!

Nate Graham
