Description Dimitrios Glentadakis 2012-08-14 11:19:26 UTC
I try to start using the Caligra Word, but there is an important first problem, the spellchecking.
I use 3 dictionnaries (Englsh, French and Greek)
I have almost all words underlined as faulty.
I right click on a word i dont have any suggestion in any of the three languages
Before verify a word i check in the Settings → Spellchecking → Configure spellcheck to have selected the right language

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Type a text or open an existing document
2.Enable the spellcheck verification
3.All words are underlined and with right click the only suggestion is to add the word in the personal dictionnary
Actual Results:
All words are underlined after enable the spellcheck
No corrections available with right click in the context menu

Expected Results:
Have the spellcheck for the dictionnary choosed in the spellcheck configuration

I use the Calligra version 2.4.3 with KDE 4.8.5 and Mageia 2

It works for me, but I've heard of others who have similar problems. It seems to depend on the type of dictionary (aspell, uspell, hunspell). It not really a calligra bug as far as I can tell.

Eventhough I close the bug, I'm very much interested in hearing if you find out what goes on or otherwise have more info to share.
Comment 2 Michael 2012-08-14 17:17:45 UTC
I have this problem on Fedora 17 KDE, using Calligra 2.5.0 and KDE 4.8.5. C. Boemann, I would be happy to help get any information on this issue that might be useful. What information would you like?
Comment 3 Camilla Boemann 2012-08-14 17:35:42 UTC
Well you can start by installing hunspell dictionaries instead and tell me if that fixes it for you. (you may want to uninstall aspell and unspell dictionaires just to be sure)
Comment 4 Dimitrios Glentadakis 2012-08-14 17:41:26 UTC
i have the hunspell dictionnaries installed, and it works fine in all kde.
i will not be able to give more infos as i am not at home for a fiew days.
Comment 5 Camilla Boemann 2012-08-14 17:48:04 UTC
even if you have hunspell installed does not mean you have selected one of its dictionaries. That is why I suggest to uninstall aspell and unspell dictionaries.

Unfortunately the dialog just shows eg "greek" but it doesn't show which dictionary it is, so you may have 3 different greek dictionaries, and if you select the wrong one then you are out of luck

All of this assumes this can even be fixed like this, but i've had some indications from other users that it can.
Comment 6 Dimitrios Glentadakis 2012-08-14 17:53:39 UTC
Normaly i choose the right dictionnary (Greek (Greece)) if not i dont have a working dictionnary with the 'Greek' (one word only) in KDE.
I think that you are talking about this issue which i am informed:

Comment 7 Camilla Boemann 2012-08-14 18:02:15 UTC
btw be aware that the kde wide dictionary you select in system-settings does not apply to Words

you need to use the calligra words dialog (which however looks like the kde wide one)
Comment 8 Michael 2012-08-14 18:46:30 UTC
I already have hunspell and hunspell-en. The only other dictionary packages installed are gtkspell and enchant. Removing gtkspell does not fix the problem and enchant can't be removed without removing much or all of KDE.
Comment 9 Camilla Boemann 2012-08-14 18:49:49 UTC
yes enchant is actually what we/kde use. It's a common interface to aspell, unspell, hunspell. So that should not be removed.

Ok then, it seems this is not the reason either

The spellcheck setting dialogs of systemsettings and calligrawords

At this time i did nt find any solution
i am still in kde 4.8.5 and calligra 2.4.3

In case that any one could help me, here are the messages from the terminal:

As i said before the spellcheck works fine in all the other KDE applications and openoffice
Comment 11 Camilla Boemann 2013-02-17 17:47:25 UTC
it was a bug in 2.4 iirc
Comment 12 Dimitrios Glentadakis 2013-02-18 17:08:36 UTC
(In reply to comment #11)
> it was a bug in 2.4 iirc

I have the version 2.4.3 so this bug should nt be reproducible, it is a new bug ?
If so, this report has to be reopened.
Comment 13 Camilla Boemann 2013-02-18 22:11:50 UTC
not really- when i say 2.4 I mean the entire 2.4 series of releases.
Comment 14 Dimitrios Glentadakis 2013-02-19 04:58:04 UTC
Ok i will wait mageia 3 which will ships calligra 2.6
Then, i will try to "migrate" to calligra

Thanks very much
Comment 15 Dimitrios Glentadakis 2013-05-26 07:23:31 UTC
I upgrade to Mageia 3 and calligra 2.6.2 with kde 4.10.2 and i have always the same problem.
The spell check in all applications in my system works except in calligra words
Comment 16 Camilla Boemann 2013-05-26 15:54:21 UTC
That may be true, but it's still not a problem of Calligra as such. You need to choose a backend that works, and unfortunately not all do
Comment 17 Camilla Boemann 2013-10-20 22:33:43 UTC
Sort of good news. I've been able to reproduce and fix something along the lines of what you describe.

For me the red lines didn't stay, instead it didn't find any errors at all. But that may be due to the fact you reported the bug so long ago (the spellchecking have been partly reworked since)
Comment 18 Dimitrios Glentadakis 2014-02-20 05:28:00 UTC
I have hunspell as backend
ALL other applications in KDE works fine
Comment 19 Dimitrios Glentadakis 2014-06-12 04:43:02 UTC
I use libreoffice definitively.
