Resetting assignee to default as per bug #305719 Why can't I view the contents of bug #305719? Because sysadmin requests can only be seen by the sysadmins themselves and the people who filed them. It's unfortunate that comment 1 has been added to all bug reports because it contains zero useful information :-( The reason why I didn't change the bug assignee myself is that I would have generated a massive amount of e-mail, and the sysadmins have ways to prevent that. Thanks for the explanation Frank. I am reasonably new to bug reporting, and for this reason sought only to look at bug #305719 to compare its detail and check if further information couldn't be added here. A simple comment by the sysadmin like "Thank you for submitting this idea." would have sufficed. |
Dolphin is highly configurable by default but when trying to set specific folder view properties of a large folder heirarchy, (i.e a mix of icon mode and details mode, for e.g) there appears to be situations that the default set of options fails to manage. Folder view settings can be manipluated and set 'Vertically' within a single folder structure quite easily using the options in Adjust View Properties, but if there are many folders in the first tier of the file strructure, each of these folders' subsequent tiers needs to be set individually. This is not a bug. Just an option that is not available in dolphin that can 'isolate' 3rd level tiers and beyond to apply such settings without affecting other tiers. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Music Folder - (View - Icon Mode) |_ Artist Folder - (View - Icon Mode) |_ Albums Folder - (View - Details Mode) The existing configuration choices are sufficient if there is only one Artist folder. However if there are many Artist folders then the desired view modes shown above need to be set individually from within each of the Artist folders. This is a lot of repetitive steps, and dependending on the sheer number of folders not always viable. UPDATE: A shortcut to achieve this was found by formatting and copying a .directory file to only the folders in the third tier above via CLI using cp ~/Template/.directory ~/Music/*/*/ and thus saving much repetitive effort. Actual Results: The above resolves the situation above well but the 'fix' got me thinking of the potential of dolphin to exploit the use of such files even further. Introducing the Idea of Dolphin in Database-Mode... - based on a .database file. - initiated via a GUI button from the toolbar. - provides database related option settings to enable easy sorting, e.g, Additional Datatypes, eg "Sender" for email, "Geolocation" for image collections. - User definable folder tier structure, i.e 3 tiers, 4 or 5 etc via "Add" button with ability to set view mode for each tier level. Expected Results: Just to restate, this is not a bug file. I wish only to highlight the circumstances of such large collections, and "imaginatively" propose an idea and possible feature solution.
