Missing icons on desktop after login in KDE

Description bapride11 2012-07-30 04:18:36 UTC
On login, the Desktop Icons activity starts, and the title of the activity that is normally located in the upper right hand corner is shifted and rotated to the right hand of the screen. A scroll bar is added, and all desktop icons disappear. By switching to a new activity and back, the Desktop Icons activity reverts to normal behavior for the rest of the session.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Login
2. View missing icons, odd interface switch.
3. Verify that Desktop Icons activity is selected.
4. Switch to any other activity.
5. Switch back to Desktop Icons activity.
6. All is well.
Actual Results:
The activity is repaired upon switching activities.

Expected Results:
The switching of activities every login should not be required.

Missing icons on desktop after login in KDE
Comment 5 Karol GrudziƄski 2014-07-21 20:06:46 UTC
I have this problem for years on my laptop. It started when I once worked with external display, and now almost EVERY TIME I start KDE, I must open terminal and "fix" this by executing:
    killall plasma-desktop; plasma-desktop &
Only real sollution is:
    find ~/.kde4/share/ -iname '*plasma*' -exec rm -v {} \;
and it works fine until I use external display again.

Hello!

This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this bug has already been resolved in Plasma 5.

Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this bug report. If the issue described here is still present in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting

If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging

Thanks for your understanding!

Nate Graham
