Please see attached image. Note how the string "Home" in the menu is differently rendered to the same string in Dolphin. Folder view has the same problem.

Another snapshot

Here's another snapshot. The above "Home" string is from Dolphin, the one below is from Plasma. Seems like Plasma somehow ends up with grayscale antialiasing.

I've also discovered this bug report on launchpad, which appears to be the same thing:
