I have upgraded my Kubuntu to KDE 4.9 Beta 2 but alas dolphin has a big bug there: the icons for the places in the left pane are much too small. I went into dolphin's settings but couldn't find a way to enlarge the icons. I tried maximizing the window, I even enlarged the left pane to half the screen width - the icons stay tiny.

My "small icons" size is set to 32 - at least this size should be respected by dolphin. But it would be better to have the dynamic behaviour back. I prefer big icons because of bad eyes and use dolphin in fullscreen mode (1920x1200) to have 128x128 icons in the file pane and preferably 64x64 or up in its left pane, but there are use cases where smaller icons for the places are needed (smaller means for me 32 to 42 :) ). KDE is the only DE which is optimal adjustable for bad eyed people where you can make everything as large as you need, so I hope this will be fixed in the final because this way it is nearly impossible for me to use the sidebar.

Reproducible: Always

Actual Results:
the icons stay tiny no matter what you do with the window. There is no way to resize the icons.

Expected Results:
The icons should either dynamically resize or the user should be able to set a fixed size or better a range or, if nothing else is possible, the icons should at least follow the "small icons" settings (last one not best solution but better than these tiny icons).
