I first noticed this after doing an "apt-get update" a few days ago.  While using the
Alpine emailer, I hit return on a link, and normally konqueror comes up with the
appropriate web page.  Now however, all I get is konqueror starting up and then
crashing with some kind of segmentation fault.  Retries just do the same.

So F-ing what?  Its an LTS that should be good for another
3 - 4 years, so support it with something better than snide
comments.

Well, you need to understand the difference between upstream and downstream. Ubuntu 10.04 being a "LTS" is totally a thing and desicion of Canonical. If you really need good support for such an old version, you should try to get it from Canonical instead of here.
