Description Daniel Duris 2012-06-05 15:32:03 UTC
If i try to mvoe widgets to the top upper position (e.g. no distance to the top of the display), they slowly move about 50px down (jump off) .

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. move widget to the absolute top (as close to the border of the screen as possible)
2. widget moves about 50px down
3.
Actual Results:
widget moves to a different position

Expected Results:
widget stays where i place it
Comment 1 Marco Martin 2012-06-07 10:15:00 UTC
are you trying to place it under a panel?
Comment 2 Daniel Duris 2012-06-07 10:47:29 UTC
no, there is no panel at the top
Comment 3 Mark 2012-06-19 23:57:14 UTC
Marco, if you move a widget over the edge of your screen it animates back within the screen with a certain margin. Probably for the shadow.. But you can't change that margin. So for example you can't say to a widget/plasmoid to hug the screen edge, it will always have some margin.

Perhaps there should be an option to change the margin?
Comment 4 Daniel Duris 2012-06-20 08:34:06 UTC
That's possible, but there is no shadow on the widgets I am using... and they still animate back (move down).
Comment 5 Chris Samuel 2013-01-31 11:44:38 UTC
I had a bunch of widgets aligned to the top of the screen but I've found with the 4.10 betas that they have all moved down by what appears to be ~63 pixels (according to kruler). When I try and move them to the top of the screen they move themselves back down again, as Dan says. :-(

Currently on 4.9.98, kicking myself for not noting when it first happened, but I think it was the first beta.

I'm having this issue for ages now (4.8.x, 4.9.x and it seems to enter in 4.10.x as well) It doesn't annoy me but it's certainly a bug. Raising the version to the latest RC.

I am experiencing this bug as well. It seems that plasma somehow thinks the panel is at the top of the screen, when it is actually at the bottom. Moving the panel to the top of the screen and back down will allow you to position your plasmoids near the top of the screen again... at least until a reboot.

Here is a YouTube video I made demonstrating this bug: http://youtu.be/ZtHDQGGmJIE

For whatever reason, everything will work after logging out and in, but a reboot will usually cause the problem to happen again. Now, *somehow* I got this to stick a few months ago, but the problem resurfaced again today, so I'm not sure what triggers it. I did enable desktop cube... could it be related to that?

Also, I've seen this happen on two laptops using the Oxygen plasma theme. I haven't tried Air yet. What plasma themes are you guys experiencing this with?
Comment 9 Mark 2013-04-26 17:50:33 UTC
I doubt this is related to the cube. I have the exact same issue and never even touched the cube.. Anyway, i'm putting the KDE version to 4.10.2 since i see it right now (on 4.10.2)..
Comment 10 S. Christian Collins 2013-05-01 05:58:37 UTC
Deleting the panel and then recreating it seems to have fixed the issue for me. Perhaps something got wonky in the configuration file that contains the panel configuration (wherever that is...).
Comment 11 Chris Samuel 2013-07-13 09:44:03 UTC
This happens for me with a number of themes and moving the panel doesn't change anything either.

The widgets are happy to be at the top of the screen for as long as the little side bar you get with the mouse over is there, as soon as I move it off it drops down.

This is with 4.10.5.
Comment 12 Chris Samuel 2013-07-20 12:48:16 UTC
Also happens with 4.11 beta 2 (4.10.90), packaged for Kubuntu 13.04 via their PPA.
Comment 13 Chris Samuel 2013-08-04 11:58:53 UTC
Still happening with 4.11 RC2 (4.10.97) packaged for Kubuntu.

Measuring with kruler it appears there is a 20px border around the screen where widgets cannot be, they get pushed back to outside that border.
Comment 14 Chris Samuel 2013-09-08 12:22:51 UTC
Still happening in 4.11.1

yes indeed, same for me.

A couple of notes:
1) This is still happening with KDE 4.13.0.
2) The frequency of this bug seems to have increased with the upgrade to 4.13.0. I get it probably once every 1-2 weeks.
3) Resizing the panel a few times seems to fix the bug until the next time it occurs.

Hello!

This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this bug is already resolved in Plasma 5.

Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this bug report. If the issue described here is still present in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting

If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging

Thanks for your understanding!
