Description michael 2012-04-09 09:49:23 UTC
I am using a NFS/NIS-Server and on the client side KDE4.7/8 is extremely slow. With slow I mean starting KDE-apps, like konsole, okular or dolphin needs nearly a minute till opening the window. And in Dolphin it needs minutes till the files are shown. Firefox, thunderbird and non-KDE-apps are starting immediately as well other windowmanagers like windowmaker are working flawlessly.

The server is OpenSuSE 11.4 and the client Opensuse 12.1 with KDE4.7/8.

Are you able to use "strace" to identify which file accesses block opening the KDE programs?

Sorry, in the meantime while updating to newest KDE-4.8.3 the problem has disappeared. But anyway while it was available I have observed that it must be related to NIS. Because when I have disabled NIS and used the local root-account everything has worked and as soon as NIS was enabled the problem showed up.

Anyway, now eveything is working with NIS and NFS.

You can close the bug.
