I have one folderview on my desktop. The folderview contains icons in a particular order. Icons->Alight to Grid and Icons->Lock in place are checked.

This morning I upgraded to 4.8.1 from OBS. Upon reboot all icons are randomly rearranged, and required manual correction.

What do you mean by "particular order"? Have you dragged the icons around, putting them in custom positions?
Comment 2 Vadym Krevs 2012-03-09 08:50:29 UTC
Yes, they had been arranged in "logical" groups. One row contained browsers, another IDEs, another utilities, etc. And "Lock in place" ensured they stated that way between reboots - this has worked until the first login after upgrade to 4.8.1 at which point icons got randomly rearranged.

OK, so this is about losing custom icon positions between plasma restarts. In this case it's a duplicate of 265774.
