In 4.8.1, I do see descriptions in the description column.
Can you attach a screenshot that shows both the to-do view and the to-do editor ?

ToDo edit.png
In the editor you don't have any description, you just have a title. The title appears in the "Summary" column, in the view. Just make your summary column wider ( the first column ), and you will see it. That fixed it! Thanks for your help.
