<rantlet type=polite>

OK, I'll admit to being a *nix "Old head" and this *is* a part of where I'm coming from

I'm fighting my way through getting Kmail into the "Brave new World" of akonadi --

My comment is this, and it is not a specific bug, so I suspect that many of those who receive these will simply redirect to /dev/null.

I do not have a problem with improving data structures -- BUT -- please remember that there are a lot of users out here in the "real world"(tm) who may have used what you consider to be outmoded data structures for a l-o-n-g time. In my case, I used mbox files for mail because I needed to connect via ssh and use mutt to check mail remotely -- hey, it is a clean, low bandwidth solution that works well even over crappy international links. I'm not a Ludddite -- but I use what I have come to recognise as functional solutions.

I've invested <insert favourite adjective for a lot> of effort in creating a series of filters to manage a fairly large volume of e-mail in Kmail -- I do not want completely recreate all of this. Unfortunately the latest version of kmail/kontact simply barfed when it tried to start. After a fair few hours of effort I am finally getting some of my previous mail imported. But I'm still getting " (Unable to append item flags.)" errors.

Please, please consider the upgrade path to your beautiful new "all singing -- all dancing" data structures before you distribute them and foist them on people who may have years of effort invested in the "status quo"

If you've got this far, thanks for listening.

</rantlet>

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
long and difficult saga involved in upgrade to new Kontact

I've converted all of the mbox files to mdir and removed duplicate messages where there were a lot of them -- even went through the biggest mdir and deleted a majority of the messages

I managed a partial import and tried removing the mdir that was causing the problem - all this achieved was a similar failure at the start of the next directory

Actual Results:
Mail did not get imported

Expected Results:
mail should have been imported

I said what I needed to say above.

If someone wants to look at this in detail, I'm happy to tar up sections of my home directory filesystem that are relevant- It really is a "PITB" (see Commonwealth hackish) and a showstopper as far as I am concerned.

you can contact me at aussie<dash>import2<at>gmail.com (not my high priority address)

Please open one bug report by issue if none is already submitted (or already fixed in recent versions).
