When I right click on a file and select a new default program to open the file with (right click on file -> open with -> other) and select to remember the choice for all the other programs a progress bar comes up that sets the system defaults.
This however takes at least a second and breaks the flow of usability - why does't the global setting change in the background while my file already loads? Why doesn't Dolphin do it in parallel?

It't doesn't break the Dolphin but it breaks the overall feel. It would be a nice polishing touch if this could be implemented.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Dolphin
2. Right click on file
3. Open with -> Other
4. Tick Remember application association for this type of file
5. Select application and press enter
6. LOOK at progress bar and wait till it finishes.
7. THEN OPEN your file and watch video/listen to music.

Why can't we switch 6 AND 7 - why can't we do it 1 2 3 4 5 7 6 instead?

On my system, the progress bar goes away in about a second. Seems like a judgement call. On one hand, maybe it's not really necessary. On the other hand, users often like progress bars, as it gives them a sense that what they told the computer to do is actually happening.

I'm closing this for now, but will re-open if we get any other requests for same.
