I am having a similar problem, but mine occurs when I turn the check marks on for all the categories. My example is with the icon for Truecrypt. When the Truecrypt background service is running and it tries to show an icon in the tray, the icon looks like it has some weird overlap and the truecrypt process goes to 100%. When I disable all the Category checkmarks in the panel and restart the background process, this does not happen. When the background process is already running and I enable all the categories in the tray, then the cpu usage spikes. I am not sure if this is the same issue, but it is hard to find the correct one. I am using KDE 4.8 from the Kubuntu repositories. it was due to the code used to remove some categories. fixed in 4.9 |
Created attachment 68452 [details] screen shot Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.7.4) OS: Linux 100% CPU usage by plasma-desktop due to choice off settings in System Tray Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Open the "System Tray Settings". Select the "Display" panel/box. If under Shown Item Categories (and all except "Application Status" and "Hardware Control" are turned off), if Hardware Control is then turned off, the CPU usage by plasma-desktop goes to ~100%. The CPU usage does not go to back to normal if "Hardware Control" is turned back on, but does so if "System Services" is also turned on. If "System Services" is then turned off, all is OK.
