Description Carlos Alberto Espinal 2012-02-01 09:12:46 UTC
Version: 0.4.1 (using KDE 4.8.0)
OS: Linux

Using the vlc backend, the first sounds played upon system log in sound scratchy and distorted. If I unable this sounds and decide to play a any other audio file, the distorted sound will show up again.

This scratchy sound leads to normal sound within seconds. No scratchy sounds are heard until I log in again.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Select the phonon vlc backend, log out, log back in, reproduce any sound.

Actual Results:
The first second of a sound file sound disorted and scratchy.

Expected Results:
No weird sounds should be heard upon playing sound files.

Soudn card: Manhattan HDMI Audio (Mobility Radeon HD 5000 Series)

I guess you talk about KDE log-in, don't you? The system sounds before you start KDE are not handled by phonon.

Thanks for the quick answer.

Regardless of this log-in system sounds. The scratching, distorted noise appears when starting a track in Amarok.

This does not happen when gstreamer backend is chosen.

Thank you for the fast feedback.
FWIW: distorted sound on system start-up point to a problem with your soundcard.
