I guess you talk about KDE log-in, don't you? The system sounds before you start KDE are not handled by phonon. Thanks for the quick answer. Regardless of this log-in system sounds. The scratching, distorted noise appears when starting a track in Amarok. This does not happen when gstreamer backend is chosen. Thank you for the fast feedback.
