I have dozens of applications to handle xml-files, the top one for that is kwrite (in configuration, and showed also in dolphin in "open-with.."-context-menu as the top one).
but the new dolphin version opens xml files with my browser chromium.

Could you check if the commit for bug 290936 fixes it?

This bug is still valid. Can nobody reproduce this? For example try to open an odt-file, it is opened in my browser, although it should be opened with libreoffice (top entry in "open with")

The problem with XML files  should be bug 291177.
