If you think it's the nouveau driver, think again. I have tried nvidia legacy and even VESA. Same effect. I can also toggle AGP from Linux AGPGART to nVidia AGP. I can also change OpenGL from nVidia to xorg X11 They all end up working in the sense that there is a desktop and I can click on stuff, but the images are always missing, for various UI elements. Can anybody decipher the various X error: BadDrawable / BadPicture messages here: http://l-i-e.com/startx.log I'm getting the same thing with ever driver... Please pull it back from "upstream" if you thought it was the driver... I've spent a lot of hours trying all reasonable combinations. And VESA was an unreasonable accident, but even that "worked" to some degree. MORE of the images were missing with VESA, but still the same general effect. Razza Frazza! Making the [bleep] toolbar taller than the default makes the K-menu, activiy, dolphin, and browser icons magically appear. Making it short, turns them into hash. So apparently it's a problem of having scalable icons or something? The cruft around the clock and the Desktop and the Favorites/Applications/Computer/Recent/Leave images are still trash. I spent a whole lot of time mucking with drivers trying to fix what looks more and more like a KDE desktop issue, to this naive user... So now it's somewhat more usable, if a one-inch taskbar is acceptable... Not really, but a "work-around" at least. |
