I tried with 2 players. Both MSC and MTP (so 4 at all) do not work. I plug it in while Amarok is running, but nothing happens. openSUSE 12.1

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start Amarok
2. Plug in the player

Actual Results:  
nothing

Expected Results:  
some mp3 player entry to put music on or listen from

sorry, did not try enough. it is shown, when I manually mount them in msc mode. was expecting amarok does it on its own.

mtp mode nothing is shown though.

Amarok doesn't handle the hardware detection, you need to either mount it manually or set it to automount in your system settings.

Could you eventually try with Amarok 2.5 beta 1?

I'll ask for an updated package in factory. 
As it is my productive system I do not want anything I cannot remove cleanly. But then I'll give another shot.

Okay, just tried it with 2.4.90 from openSUSE factory:

MTP-Mode works just fine! Player is shown and playing files works, too. And unmounting. 

MSC-Mode is always shown, too. Mounting does not work (would be nice though), except via Dolphin. Then it works. 

(Except some other issue: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=287192)

But this here can be closed, I guess.
