There is plasma widget to remove the button in top-right corner of the screen:

I would be great to have the ability to remove it out of the box.

I expect that there is checkbox to hide this button.

You can drag it into a corner, so that it no longer displays the activity's name. Complete removing it is not supported.

Thanks! I didn't think I could drag this button. Now it is much better.
