I tried to start amarok. The nice startup-window shows up for some time, amarok docks on to the task bar and then it just crashes.

The problem appears to be in Qt. We have several reports about problems with Qt 4.7.4 and higher, see also bug 279813.
Did you try removing the config files for Amarok?

Not related, I guess. Sounds more like a video driver issue.

@Reporter, are you using a somewhat special X setup? Using unity? Weird video drivers?

I'm launching from Gnome classic if this helps.

I also use K3B launched from Gnome classic and this runs fine.

This is not an Amarok bug, should have been closed earlier. Please check with your distribution for a X related bug
