If, after a reboot, I type in my login/password too quickly, I get the error message "Activation of org.freedesktop.ConsoleKit timed out", and for that session I am then unable to suspend to RAM or mount USB disks, etc. If I wait a bit before clicking log in, it works just fine. 

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Reboot
2. Type in password quickly to log in (UserCompletion helps)
3. Log in

Actual Results:  
get error message, can't suspend to RAM/mount a USB drive

Expected Results:  
no error message, suspend to RAM/mounting works

Took a while to figure out what caused this, very annoying.

No idea if kdm is at fault or where the problem lies.

it's not kdm. there is a chance that ck-connector is setting a timeout which is too short for the rather busy bootup time. but it seems more likely that the distribution-specific startup scripts don't serialize the bootup of the system d-bus and kdm properly.
