Description jm.ouwerkerk 2011-09-04 19:14:45 UTC
Version: unspecified (using Devel)
OS: MS Windows

After the installer finishes the step of downloading package lists for the installer to work with, it crashes. This is regardless of whether or not you have previously installed KDE, or which mirror you selected for download.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Download KDE on Windows installer,
Run as Admin,
Click through the Wizard selecting the basic options (like installation dir, mirror)

Actual Results:
After selecting mirror the installer will attempt to fetch package list, this seems to complete normally (at any rate the progress bar fills nicely), but once the progess pop up disappears Windows 7 64bit will pop up a dialog about the Installer having encountered a problem and do you want to let Windows search for help with this problem.

Expected Results:
I'd expect the package selection screen to pop up instead of the installer to crash.

Windows 7, 64bit, updated except for installing SP1

I have similar problem. Fetching package list stays at 99% and then crash afer that. I'm using Windows 7 32-bit.

In my case it crashes after failing downloading the package lists "failed to download site list page from http://download.kde.org/stable/4.8.0/win32/" at 72% on Windows 7 64 bit.
I can't update it nor install it.

I have same issue on Windows 7
Comment 4 Patrick Spendrin 2013-05-08 07:21:13 UTC
Please check where you run the installer from:
Please do not run the installer from the installation location.
Comment 5 Nikita Krupenko 2013-05-08 07:47:51 UTC
I'm running installer from download location.
I also found, that it crashes only if it tries to download files from download.kde.org. If I manually set another mirror, installer working.
Comment 6 Mihai Sorin Dobrescu 2013-05-22 11:47:25 UTC
Still on installer 1.0.0 for http://download.kde.org/stable/4.10.2/win32/

There is no other mirror proposed.
Comment 7 Nikita Krupenko 2013-05-22 11:55:16 UTC
Uncheck "skip basic settings "
Comment 8 Mihai Sorin Dobrescu 2013-05-22 11:58:12 UTC
It doesn't matter. When the 4.10.2 version was launched, I could download the list from any other mirror, but now only the main mirror is present in the list.
Comment 9 Nikita Krupenko 2013-05-22 12:13:10 UTC
Sorry, sent incomplete comment.

Uncheck "skip basic settings pages" in the installer. On the mirror page add manually some kde mirror. You can look at this page and pick one: http://download.kde.org/stable/kdewin/installer/kdewin-installer-gui-latest.exe.mirrorlist. Press button "Add URL" and select this mirror in the list http://joxi.ru/uploads/prod/20130522/b0a/515/e22fed7c36e30abf4a4ca3196406b856d7ff10ea.png
Also deleting file etc/setup.ini from KDE directory can help
Comment 10 Mihai Sorin Dobrescu 2013-05-22 12:27:59 UTC
Interesting, the mirror worked.
Could it be some timeout from the main?
Why the installer doesn't download the mirror list first?

If this problem persists feel free to reopen the bug and and send in the installer running log.
