Version:           4.6 (using KDE 4.6.5) 
OS:                Linux

The whole KDE-system is exrtemly slow. I do not mean slow in normal sense, I mean unusable slow. Every KDE-App including the starting of the system needs up to minutes for starting.

I have a quad-core intel with 8GB Ram and onboard intel grafik card. Every other non-KDE app including window manager is extremely fast. I have more or less tried every hint I have found on the net, including disabling desktop effects, blure, nepomuk other special grafik-effects. But the problem still remains. I have wiped every .kde/.kde4 dir as well observed it for a new user. Within a KDE-session non-KDE Apps like chrome or firefox are working normal. Also switching between desktops windows or apps are working normal fast.

Do you have any files an a networked drive?

The home-dir is served via nis/nfs. But I am loggend in as a user and have the same problem with the root user. I have also tried the newest 4.7 as well as kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental.

That reminds me of a problem I had in the past ..... do you have a loopback network interface ? (it is just a very random guess)

No, I do not have a loopback network.

So far I have 'solved' the problem for my system, by disabling NIS on the computer and use the home-dir directly without NIS. After a reboot everything works now. 

At least for me, we can mark the bug as solved.

In KDE3, a certain time I experienced really big delays, even with a local home folder.
I noticed I lacked the "lo" interface (listed by "ifconfig"), because the system was a bit broken. Once I re-enabled it, KDE started to work normally. Anyways, I didn't use NFS, so I guess my problem is unrelated to yours.
