Kstars uses its own widget for selecting location. Marble is around for quite long time. It's feature rich have nice looks and hopefully will be faster than current implementation.

Ideas about doing this are floating around since at least 2009. There is also benefit for i18n. See bug #209191 for details.

If i remember correctly the missing feature was TZ support in marble. That is it would send back the TZ associated to a given city/coordinate.

Marble shouldn't be a dependency for the sake of city selection, unless there is more to it than that?
