Jabber supports sending various types of automated notifications to conversation partners, such as information about when someone is typing or closes the conversation (i.e. window). Clients usually allow disabling these types of automated messages for privacy reasons, and I'd like KDE Telepathy to support the same in the Jabber account configuration UI.

I can't see anything relevant in Gabble (the program that talks between telepathy and jabber) 

(except maybe this:
org.freedesktop.Telepathy.Connection.Interface.Gabble.cloak.Decloak.DecloakAutomtaically, the only config value we're not presenting to the user, and it's because I have no idea what that does)

This mean the first step in fixing this is to fix telepathy-gabble upstream. If anyone wants to push this further, then should
1) check latest telepathy-gabble code http://cgit.freedesktop.org/telepathy/telepathy-gabble/

and have a quick grep, and most important check what parameters it supports

2) assuming it doesn't support it, file a bug report on the freedesktop.org bugzilla and/or update their code. (talk to tp people on how to do this)

3) when telepathy-gabble supports this, add the options to our accounts-kcm-plugin (trivial)

Can you pass this request on to Telepathy upstream, as that's where it needs to be implemented first, by filing a ticket here, and then stick a link in the comments to this bug report so we can keep track of it.

Any movement on this? The upstream report indicates that the ball is at least partially in KTP's court, and I'd really love to use your stuff.

I have a patch somewhere that lets you disable typing notifications, could be a start. I'll try digging it up and post for review.

Unfortunately no. I remember we discarded it for some reason, but I don't really remember what it was. So this is still pending.

Concerning the "user is typing" configuration options: That is covered by bug 282201.

Dear user, unfortunately Telepathy is no longer maintained.

Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
