Description Ivo Anjo 2011-06-20 17:22:23 UTC
Version: 2.4.1 (using KDE 4.6.4)
OS: Linux

When I add multiple albums from "various artists" (or even the entire "local collection" item) to the playlist the resulting order is very confusing: it does not seem to be any logical order like being grouped by album, by track, or by artist.

For example if I have
Various Artists:
- Album 1
- Album 2
- Album 3
...
- Album 7

and I drag it to the playlist (with no sorting enabled) I get:
Track 28 - Album 7
Track 29 - Album 7

Track 1 - Album 3
Track 2 - Album 3

Track 16 - Album 5

Track 1,2,3,11,12 - Album 2
... and the strange ordering goes on.

I know that I can ask for an explicit ordering, but I think the default order should have a good setting, and currently it doesn't make much sense.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Add multiple albums from "Various artists" to playlist (via D&D or right-click->add to playlist).

I can't reproduce this here at all. Please check the playlist progression (right icon at the bottom) and set it to standard and check again you really hav no playlist sorting activated.

Thanks for the very quick answer :)

I have standard progression and no sorting. To ease testing I made a screencast of the issue, along with a set of test (silent) tracks that trigger this issue for me, hope it helps.
Comment 3 Ivo Anjo 2011-06-21 23:57:38 UTC
It seems I cannot attach the files, so I've uploaded them elsewhere:

So I guess this only happens with albums that are in the Various artist section, right?
What are the settings of your Playlist layout? You can attach it to the report as well, it is located in the $HOME/.kde/share/apps/amarok/playlist_layouts/ folder
Comment 5 Ivo Anjo 2011-06-22 14:33:00 UTC
Yes, this only happens with albums in "Various Artists".
My playlist layout is the default one, my playlist_layout folder is empty.

Btw just to add, I see this issue on two different machines, both KDE 4.6.4/Amarok 2.4.1, one Kubuntu 11.04 64bit and the other openSUSE 11.3 32bit.
Comment 6 Myriam Schweingruber 2011-06-23 12:13:56 UTC
Changing the title accordingly.
Interestingly I still can't reproduce this here, using Amarok 2.4-git. Might already be fixed in git or something is different in your id3 tags.
Comment 7 Ivo Anjo 2011-06-23 15:39:43 UTC
Have you tried with the attached test tracks?

I've just compiled latest 2.4-GIT (looking great, btw!) and I can still reproduce this. I also tried with a Kubuntu 11.04 livecd and a different user on my main machine and this happens too. The ordering varies (it's not always the same), but it's never a "correct" one.
Comment 8 Myriam Schweingruber 2011-06-24 12:47:51 UTC
I did, and I can't reproduce this at all. Could you please check your default playlist layout anyway?

My layout is the default one, and the layouts directory is empty. I can even reproduce this on a new user that has never ran amarok, and that only has the test tracks in the collection.

Is this still valid for you with Amarok 2.6?

I still can't reproduce this here at all, using Amarok 2.6-git
Comment 11 Myriam Schweingruber 2012-12-04 15:41:50 UTC
Closing for lack of feedback. Please feel free to reopen if you can reproduce this with Amarok 2.6 or later.
Comment 12 Ivo Anjo 2012-12-04 17:23:50 UTC
Sorry, I hadn't seen your question.
I still get this on Amarok 2.6.0, on Kubuntu 12.10, same as before.
Comment 13 Vit Pelcak 2013-05-23 12:49:51 UTC
I was able to reproduce on 2.7.0.
Comment 14 Matěj Laitl 2013-05-23 13:39:50 UTC
Can reproduce here, Vít also can. Reassigning to Collection Browser as I can assure that playlist is not the culprit, it is the *source* that doesn't get tracks in correct order.

Similar problem with Amarok 2.7.1 at Debian testing. If I add various albums (from same or different artist) at a time, tracks are ordered by their number, without considering her album, and sometimes one track of one of the albums go first, sometimes one of track of other album. For example:

Track 01 from album A
Track 01 from album B
Track 02 from album A
Track 02 from album B
Track 03 from album B
Track 03 from album A

No order options selected, standard track progress, tags perfectly wrote and no upcase-lowcase differences. Tracks added from file view (I have my music sorted by folders for group, subfolder for album, sub-subfolder for disc if there are more than one, and track-number and name in file name. I just wanna get tracks ordered by folders and filenames. For example:
/home/malkavian/Musica/Avalanch/2008-Caminar Sobre El Agua/CD1/01 Ángel De La Muerte.ogg
Comment 16 Mikhail Ivchenko 2013-12-03 21:45:12 UTC
Can reproduce in v2.8.0
