Actually compression filter are statically compiled (for instance bzip and xz). Please provide the filter throught a plugin mecanism, it will ease your work on the distribution side, simplify dependencies and moreover be more robust. 

Actually debian does not compile kde with xz support, that is fine for a dependencies point of view, but need full recompilation if users want to support xz files.

I don't see us altering that, if your distro doesn't compile that in, it is a distro bug.
