Description Christopher Bräuer 2011-05-25 21:36:05 UTC
Version: 1.6.1 (using KDE 4.6.3)
OS: Linux

Hi,
I tried to copy some files from my PC to an usb-stick. The copy dialog pops up, tells that everything is copied, the frame is closed but when I disconnect the device, it still is not unmounted, cause the copy process is still going on. I suggest, that the dialog stays open, until the files are copied correctly/fully.
I had the same behavior when I tried to copy a 700MB file to my garmin gps device, which is connected via usb 1.1, so very slow. Here also the dialog pops up, shows the progressbar very quick, closes but the file was not copied fully. I plugged out the device and it broke the internal memory. I had to format it, to get it up again.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Copy a large file or many files to a (slow) usb device.

Actual Results:
The files were not copied fully.

Expected Results:
Copy all the files correctly AND the copy dialog should stay open until all the files have been copied.

OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.34.8-0.2-desktop
Compiler: gcc

You usually unmount a device before unplugging it - even if all files are copied on the usb device you could have data loss when unplugging the device without unmounting it. Its like disconnecting the power plug withouth shuting down, thats the reason why KDE gives you several ways to unmount the device (dolphin and systray), I consider this not as bug.

I know, that I have to unmount it first and ok, it is not a real bug, but...:

In my school, we have serveral linux systems installed, which the teachers and students can use. Normally they are not familiar with linux/kde and so, they just plug out the usb device, when the copy dialog closes. On windows, the dialog closes not before all files have been copied. I think, this should be on linux/kde too, so the users are not confused.
