Product: [Applications] partitionmanager Reporter: FabiB <plusfabi>
Component: generalAssignee: Volker Lanz <vl>
Status: RESOLVED DUPLICATE
Severity: normal CC: cfeck
Priority: NOR
Version: 1.0.3
Target Milestone: ---
Platform: Ubuntu
OS: Linux
Latest Commit: Version Fixed In:

Description FabiB 2011-05-24 19:07:22 UTC
Version: 1.0.3 (using KDE 4.6.2)
OS: Linux

After format (or something else) you can whatch the output in an "external browser", if you click this, the browser will started as root witch is a high risk.

The same when you click in partitionmanager help>report a bug, it will start the browser with a root too

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
systemsettings > partitionmanager > check your filesystem. now at the bottom of the new window after the operation, you can click details and external browser.

Actual Results:
your systembrowser will start with as root

Expected Results:
should started as normal user or not started, only create a logfile

i know we can close the browser but i have seen it how my father surft the day long with root-opera after he formated his new usb stick.

Partition Manager should probably use the KAuth framework with appropiate root action helpers instead of running as root entirely. This is a big task, unfortunately.

Christoph's analysis is correct. Both parts :-(
