Description p92 2011-05-13 13:20:12 UTC
Created attachment 59964 [details]
a konsole trace of what happens during several streams play

Version: 2.4.0 (using KDE 4.6.2)
OS: Linux

Please not I am using KDE SC 4.6.3 (not listed in bugs.kde.org)

This does not happen with xine phonon plugin.

Since Natty (ubuntu 11.04) phonon backend is gstreamer by default.

With this backend, for fome ogg and mp3 radio streams, amarok is unable to play them several times.
On the second try, amarok plays them for half a second and stop.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
start amarok
play this audio stream http://radio.rim952.fr:8001/stream.ogg
or this one http://radio.rim952.fr:8000/stream.mp3

stop playing the stream

play someting else (a mp3 file for example)

now try to play the preceeding stream again

Actual Results:
the stream will play correctly the first time it is started
the second time the stream ill start to play then stop quite immediatly

Expected Results:
stream will always play, until I stop it or change track in the playlist

OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.38-02063802-generic
Compiler: cc

Subscribing the Phonon developers.

I also have same problem. There are also strange things happening when saving streams to playlists -- name of the stream which I just played, and is in the playlist, kind of changes to that of whatever .mp3 I play (could be another bug though).

Please tell me what other info you need.

Octavian, please file another bug for this, it is not the same.

reassigning to phonon-backend-gstreamer

With some MP3 files and the GStreamer backend there is the additional problem, that moving the play position does not work. Sometimes moving the play position does not work at all, sometimes it works after some tries. Switching the Phonon backend to Xine helps in such cases.

The pause function also works with the GStreamer backend.

Gstreamer can't read the metadatas from radios?

No problems with phonon-backend-vlc or xine

Can you test this with the latest pgst 4.5.90 release? May issues related to streaming and metadata were fixed, hopefully this one got rolled into it but never closed.

I will gladly test, but please provide a link to .debs or a ppa with the upgraded packages (for amd64).

Phonon-GStreamer 4.6 is out, which is essentially what 4.5.90 was. Think you can test this? There were some minor streaming fixes made between the two releases which may address the issue.

Kubuntu 12.04
Amarok 2.5.0
Phonon-GStreamer 4.7-really4.6
No problem playing stream, but the metadatas is empty yet.

With Phonon-vlc 0.5.0 amarok read metada without problem.
