Every time I restart, the order of most of my icons and widgets changes. For most of my icons on the top panel, they will be in the same general location (in relation to separators) upon reboot, but in a different order, ie instead of my clock being in the top panel, rightmost position, it will be the indicator bar that is then in the right most position with the clock to the left of it. I also have a bottom panel open, but the order of that does not seem to change.

Problem definitely exists - every time I logout of restart I have to re-arrange everything in the panel, and it is nearly impossible to accomplish.

openSUSE 12.1 with whatever KDE is currently installed.  I can't open yast right now because no matter where I click I get the clock.  Arrgh!  I'll be up all night again....

We definitely need the exact KDE version, else the confirmation is not really useful.

Oops - KDE 4.7.2 on 
openSUSE-12.1-KDE-x86_64
I've since put another panel on the left side with icons for mostly 
non-system functions, and that panel works just fine. New icons pop 
in at the top, and all can be re-arranged by moving them wherever 
you want them as long as you don't want spaces, because they pop to 
alignment always anchored a the top of the panel.

The Bottom panel is more civilized now, due mostly to having a lot 
less icons in it, and being able to put a few inside the "system tray", 
a separate widget in itself.

Without severely paring everything down that way, the bottom panel 
was totally unmanageable.

I still think this is a bug, or the directions for use should reflect an 
attempt to outline the limits of possible customization; (how much 
can be crammed into the panel and still have it work?)

This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this bug is already resolved in Plasma 5.
