Description Alexander 2011-05-04 15:11:10 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.6.2)
OS: Linux

1. When my internet connection is down, kopete start to spamming me about lost connection of all my accounts (2 jabber, msn, skype and icq). This is repeated after each failed attempts, instead of just give me know in one plasma notification window that the internet is down or connection was lost.

2. Notifications it is not the worst that happens when kopete lost the connection. If a long time will be needed for restore the internet connection, kopete may do not connect my accounts (or some of them). After several attempts it just set my status to offline and that's all. Last time the connection could not be restored for about 15 minutes and when it was done all my accounts were in offline. So I am not always sure that I in online.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Actual Results:
Currently kopete is a very unreliable in this respect.

Expected Results:
Firstly, kopete should stop spamming from every account I have. It should notify me through an one single notification when connection was lost and after it will be restored.

Secondly, if I have set my status to online it should be online forever. Kopete shouldn't change status that I had set by hand. Even after 20 minutes of disconnection kopete should save status that I've set by hand and apply it when connection restored. Or if I'll launch kopete when internet is down — it still should connect when the connection restored.

There are no words. Would be better if you'll set one hour timeout... or even better two, we all have plenty of time for waiting. Why do not a background check every 5 seconds? 5 seconds it is already a lot. I don't know about programming on linux, but perhaps there is a way to register a system callback for checking when network is down immediately?
Comment 2 Alexander 2011-05-04 15:45:35 UTC
For example, you can see how it works in windows clients. They don't wait for half an hour. The connection is down — status offline, once the connection has been restored — status restored immediately.

Also, almost every time when internet connection is lost, my accounts going to offline not immediately. Sometimes it takes a few minutes, before I'll be able to see that I am not online.

Linux Skype client has no such problems. I even don't seen when it reconnects, but kopete sent 10-15 notifications, but in the end icq and jabber accounts are not connected.
