- What I was doing when the application crashed:

* ran sudo apt-get upgrade and noticed that a new version of KDM was installed

* logged-out of KDE

* from tty1 executed service kdm stop; service kdm start to ensure that the new KDM would be running

* logged into my account and tried sudo wvdial to connect through the rocket stick.

* modem did not respond

* unplugged the rocket stick. from lsusb:

Bus 001 Device 008: ID 19d2:0031 ONDA Communication S.p.A. ZTE MF636

Note that this is the buggy version of the MF636, from rogers/fido in Quebec, Canada (a modem that has been causing problems for developers for the past couple of years.) It does not yet have the recently released software upgrade from ZTE.

- Unusual behavior I noticed:

* crash reporting assistant appeared and reported that kdeinit4 crashed.
