Description Catcatmu 2011-04-14 22:21:47 UTC
Version:           4.6 (using KDE 4.6.2)
OS:                Linux

Using Knetwork manager or the plasmoid kde will fail to connect to a created Adhoc uness it is alreay activated on another pc since 'undetected' connections are not listed.

A workaround which tricks the plasmoid/manager into activating the connection (already created):
1) Menu -> Manage connections -> Wireless -> Edit <Adhoc Connection> -> Scan -> pick any existing SSID
2) Menu -> disable wireless
3) Menu -> enable wireless
Magically the 'Adhoc' connection appears in the list
4) Menu -> Manage Connections -> Wireless -> Edit -> Set SSID to Adhoc connections SSID
5) Menu -> Select the Adhoc connection.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Create an 'Adhoc' connection and try to find it.

Actual Results:
The adhoc connection isn't in the list of networks.

Expected Results:
The adhoc connection IS in the list of networks even if no other PC is available and using that SSID.

Workaround works for both Plasmoid and applet.

I think you hit this already fixed bug: http://bugs.kde.org/212941

The fix for that bug is very recent (less than two weeks), OpenSuse did not have the time to update their packages. The Plasma NM version shiped in OpenSuse 11.4 (plasmoid-networkmanagement-0.9.svn1192577) uses outdated Plasma NM snaphot from November of last year. If that is the package version you are using then you need to wait until OpenSuse provides a more recent package with the fix.

Which version of Plasma NM (plasmoid-networkmanagement in OpenSuse nomenclature) do you use?

There is a new Plasma NM update for OpenSuse 11.4: http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-kde/2011-05/msg00035.html
