Description Tekkno Genius 2011-04-11 05:34:44 UTC
Version: 4.6 (using KDE 4.6.2)
OS: Linux

After AC is plugged in power profile changes to Performance correctly but immediately dims the screen to lowest level.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Unplug cord, profile changes to powersave, screen dims according to setting
2. Plug in AC cord, profile changes to performance, screen adjusts to correct setting, but then immediately dims to lowest level

Actual Results:
1. Unplug cord, profile changes to powersave, screen dims according to setting
2. Plug in AC cord, profile changes to performance, screen adjusts to correct setting, but then immediately dims to lowest level

Expected Results:
1. Unplug cord, profile changes to powersave, screen dims according to setting
2. Plug in AC cord, profile changes to performance, screen adjusts to correct setting, but then immediately dims to lowest level1. Unplug cord, profile changes to powersave, screen dims according to setting
2. Plug in AC cord, profile changes to performance, screen adjusts to correct setting

It does not matter which profile is selected on AC power, same results (screen dims to lowest level)

Uncheck "Dim screen" checkbox in your profiles it will not happen anymore.

I think you don't understand the issue. The Dim Screen check box you are
referring to is for dimming the screen after a set amount of time, which
works as it should. What I'm talking about is that upon unplugging the
machine it goes to powersave profile as it should, upon plugging in the
machine it goes to performance profile as it should, but then immediately
dims the screen to its lowest level, which should not be happening until a
set amount of time has passed. I tried unchecking that option as you
suggested but it did not work. I am sure it is a bug. Like I said,
unplugging the machine does not exhibit this behavior.

Any other tips would be greatly appreciated. If you know what code controls
this I'll take a look at it and possibly send in a patch.

I figured it out. There is a conflict between the "Guidance Power Manager"
and the "Power Management" widgets. They both come by default it seems. Once
I quit the "Guidance Power Manager" all worked correctly.

Ahhhh that explains everything. I have never used Guidance, sure using more than one power management software at the same time can cause unexpected behaviour. Ok, so closing this bug.
