Description John Wilson 2011-04-07 11:42:29 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.6.1)
OS: Linux

If a user chooses a new icon for a mime type, Dolphin continues to show the default icon in the icon view.

This behaviour persists after logging out and in, and after running kbuildsycoca4.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Right-click on a file icon in the icon view, and choose Properties.
2. Click the spanner icon to configure the file type (mime type).
3. Click on the displayed file icon to open the icon browser; choose a new icon and click OK.
4. Click OK for the other two windows.

Actual Results:
In the icon view, Dolphin continued to display the default icon associated with the mime type .

Expected Results:
In the icon view, Dolphin should display the icon just chosen by the user.

Have tested this with a newly-created user account on an installation of Fedora 14 (x86_64) with the KDE packages updated to 4.6.1.

Same exact problem here with kde 4.8 on Arch linux.

This seems to be fixed in KDE 4.7.4 (Fedora 16, x86_64 version).

Well I can change folders and devices icons without a problem. The bug only seems to apply to mime types.

I've just re-checked (KDE 4.7.4 on Fedora 16 x86_64 as before) and I can change icons for folders, devices, and mime types, so this bug seems to be fixed for me. Perhaps there is some kind of regression KDE 4.7 -> 4.8 ?
Comment 5 Peter Penz 2012-02-07 09:24:32 UTC
Changing the icons works in 4.7.4 and 4.8.0 for "fast local file systems", but in 4.7.4 a performance-bugfix (see bug 178678) in kdelibs disabled the checking of a custom icon for "slow local/non-local file systems". I've marked this bug as duplicate of bug 288824.
