merge the two reports ---------- Forwarded Message ---------- Subject: Bug#27001: outgoing email stuck in outbox (was #25347) Date: 10 Jun 2001 01:28:17 -0000 From: roger.larsson@norran.net To: submit@bugs.kde.org Package: kmail Version: KDE 2.2.0 Alpha2 Severity: normal Installed from: SuSE RPMs Compiler: Not Specified OS: Not Specified OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified Furter testing has shown that it has nothing to do with attachments nor POP before SMTP - therefore I open a new bug report. It happens now and then I can see no pattern... (I can receive mail during the time emails are stuck in the outbox!) (Submitted via bugs.kde.org) _______________________________________________ Kmail Developers mailing list Kmail@master.kde.org http://master.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kmail ------------------------------------------------------- --=20 Daniel Naber Paul-Gerhardt-Str. 2 33332 Guetersloh Germany Tel. 05241-59371 Mobil 0170-4819674 Hi Got another email stuck in outbox... This time I fired up netscape and emailed to the same person. Using the same smtp server mail1.telia.com (strangely the received note says that netscape went throu mailb.telia.com...???) roger@jeloin:~ > ping mail1.telia.com PING mail.telia.com (194.22.194.231): 56 data bytes 64 bytes from 194.22.194.231: icmp_seq=0 ttl=245 time=31.532 ms roger@jeloin:~ > ping mailb.telia.com PING mailb.telia.com (194.22.194.6): 56 data bytes 64 bytes from 194.22.194.6: icmp_seq=0 ttl=245 time=29.908 ms When x-iting the sending the following is reported: "Sending failed: The message will stay in the 'outbox' ... Note: other messages will also be blocked... The following transport protocol was used: smtp://mail1.telia.com:25" It looks to me that if we fail the first time it is not really retried later. (still happens with 2.2beta1 - maybe I did not wait for long enough... but I think so) I have noticed that the problem happens most of the time (only?) in this scenario: 1. Create a mail to myself but with a different name (i.e.) "POSK SK" <roger.larsson@norran.net> 2. Send it - it will bounce back 3. On receive it is detected by the filter: To contains ("POSK SK"). 3a: transfer to: a list of people 3b: reply to: "POSK SK" <roger.larsson@norran.net> Results in a simple mail list! All messages send to me but with name "POSK SK" goes to everybody on list... replies too goes to the list :-) But the question is - does the code deadlock? send + moment later receive -> filter -> send to multiple On Sunday 8. Does KMail no longer respond? Do the failing mails remain in the outbox? Regards Michael Häckel On Friday 27 July 2001 00:28 Roger Larsson wrote: > This could somehow be related to #27001 - the resulting > behaviour is the same... (but I can actually send > sometimes...) I doubt it. 29111 is due to a smtp server that has been broken on purpose (poor thing). 27001 is due to just a plain broken smtp server that can't accept the (old style?) smtp commands kmail gives. Neither is a kmail bug so I close them 27001 might be worked around once/if the smtp slave is used. For roland: > Normally I would use uname() and may be gethostbyname() > to get the values. > Is there a KDE way to that ? Don't know I would just use uname() or gethostbyname(). Don. All my mail when i hit send goes to outbox and stays there. I can still receive e-mails... I just cannot send them. please review your identity settings. If it does not contain a valid email address messages don't get send. Please do not add comments to closed bug reports, I by accident spotted it, but normally you won't get an answer....ever... It might also be that your identity, in the advanced tab, has a special transport set that does not exist anymore. Hello! I receive emails but i cannot send them; emails are just moved to outbox. Send queued emails from menu does nothing. No explicit message error. Same behavior with two different smtp servers. Icedove works in the same situation --thanks God. I append some (relevant?) info; please tell me if you need more files. r ----------------- prozac:~# uname -a Linux prozac 2.6.26-1-686 #1 SMP Wed Sep 10 16:46:13 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux prozac:~# aptitude -F '%a %c %M %p# %V %v ---%d' search kdepim p kdepim 4:3.5.9-5 <none> ---Personal Information Management apps from the official KDE release p kdepim-dbg 4:3.5.9-5 <none> ---debugging symbols for kdepim p kdepim-dev 4:3.5.9-5 <none> ---KDE Personal Information Management [development] p kdepim-doc 4:3.5.9-5 <none> ---KDE Personal Information Management library documentation p kdepim-doc-html 4:3.5.9-5 <none> ---KDE PIM documentation in HTML format i kdepim-kfile-plugins 4:3.5.9-5 4:3.5.9-5 ---KDE File dialog plugins for palm and vcf files i kdepim-kio-plugins 4:3.5.9-5 4:3.5.9-5 ---KDE pim I/O Slaves i kdepim-kresources 4:3.5.9-5 4:3.5.9-5 ---KDE pim resource plugins i kdepim-wizards 4:3.5.9-5 4:3.5.9-5 ---KDE server configuration wizards p kdepimlibs-data 4:4.1.0-1 <none> ---core shared data for KDE PIM 4 applications p kdepimlibs-dbg 4:4.1.0-1 <none> ---debugging symbols for the KDE 4 PIM libraries p kdepimlibs5 4:4.1.0-1 <none> ---core libraries for KDE PIM 4 applications p kdepimlibs5-dev 4:4.1.0-1 <none> ---development files for the KDE 4 PIM libraries p libkdepim1-dev 4:3.5.9-5 <none> ---KDE PIM library [development] i libkdepim1a 4:3.5.9-5 4:3.5.9-5 ---KDE PIM library p opensync-plugin-kdepim 0.22-3 <none> ---KDE plugin for opensync prozac:~# aptitude -F '%a %c %M %p# %V %v ---%d' search kmail i kmail 4:3.5.9-5 4:3.5.9-5 ---KDE Email client i kmailcvt 4:3.5.9-5 4:3.5.9-5 ---KDE KMail mail folder converter p libmail-bulkmail-perl 3.12-4 <none> ---Platform independent mailing list module p pskmail 0.8.5-1 <none> ---client for HF narrow band mail delivery system for amateur radio prozac:~# aptitude prozac:~# aptitude -vvv show kmail Package: kmail State: installed Automatically installed: no Version: 4:3.5.9-5 Priority: optional Section: mail Maintainer: Debian Qt/KDE Maintainers <debian-qt-kde@lists.debian.org> Uncompressed Size: 8270k Architecture: i386 Compressed Size: 2755k Filename: pool/main/k/kdepim/kmail_3.5.9-5_i386.deb MD5sum: 3b07ec793a008dfa74502e278e5141b0 Archive: testing Depends: kdelibs4c2a (>= 4:3.5.9), libart-2.0-2 (>= 2.3.18), libaudio2, libc6 (>= 2.7-1), libfontconfig1 (>= 2.4.0), libfreetype6 (>= 2.3.5), libgcc1 (>= 1:4.1.1), libice6 (>= 1:1.0.0), libidn11 (>= 0.5.18), libjpeg62, libkcal2b (>= 4:3.5.9), libkdepim1a (>= 4:3.5.9), libkleopatra1 (>= 4:3.5.9), libkmime2 (>= 4:3.5.9), libkpimidentities1 (>= 4:3.5.9), libksieve0 (>= 4:3.5.9), libmimelib1c2a (>= 4:3.5.9), libpng12-0 (>= 1.2.13-4), libqt3-mt (>= 3:3.3.8b), libsm6, libstdc++6 (>= 4.1.1), libx11-6, libxcursor1 (> 1.1.2), libxext6, libxft2 (> 2.1.1), libxi6, libxinerama1, libxrandr2, libxrender1, libxt6, zlib1g (>= 1:1.1.4), perl, kdepim-kio-plugins, kdebase-kio-plugins Recommends: procmail, kmailcvt (>= 4:3.5.9-5) Suggests: gnupg, gnupg-agent, pinentry-qt | pinentry-x11, kaddressbook, kleopatra, spamassassin | bogofilter | annoyance-filter | spambayes | bsfilter | crm114, clamav | f-prot-installer Replaces: kdebase-data (< 4:3.4.0), kdepim-dev (< 4:3.4.0) Provides: imap-client, mail-reader Description: KDE Email client KMail is a fully-featured email client that fits nicely into the KDE desktop.
