It would be nice to be able to 'lock' the selection bar in the message list so that as you progress to the next message the messages move rather than the bar.

Suppose you are sorting by date order so that newer messages appear further down in the list.  Suppose you have five messages in the list and the subject lines are conveniently "Message 1" through to "Message 5".

The selection bar is marked by the ">>".

I'd like to lock the selection bar at message 2 so that it shows me the details for the message I've just read and details about the upcoming messages.  After reading the first two messages the message list would then look like this:

  ------------------------------------
  Message 2
>>Message 3
  Message 4
  Message 5

Message 1 has scrolled off the top Message 2 has been read and the selection bar is pointing to Message 3 but hasn't moved in the meantime.

Although you are trying to explain it extensivly, I do not understand what you wish for. Are you that all messages in a folder are placed under each other, so you can scroll continiously through all messages and the status bar follows where you are?
