Description Donn Washburn 2011-03-23 19:15:54 UTC
Version: 4.6 (using KDE 4.6.0)
OS: Linux

In openSuse 11.4 rc1 I have the sound working correctly using yast2. Bring up KDE4 and no sound device is seen under "Configure Desktop" "Multimedia"

This is from Milestone 6 to RC2

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
bring up KDE4 and find Configure Desktop then Multimedia Try <alt>E Test Sound

Actual Results:
I started with a console GUI called yast2 to setup the sound. openSuSE also has an issue with permission and applications based device /dev/dsp and /dev/mixer set to 660 I found 666 works with most applications - Amarok and VLC. and flashplayer fail sound This appears to be dbus, phonon or pulse audio problem

Expected Results:
I would expect amarok to play, vlc to play and flashplayer10 to play I am not sure of the connection of debus, phonon and pulse openSuSE 11.4 RC2 x86-64

I have not found the problem yet. So it may be something else that KDE4

Found it! Under KDE4 and the Start button(like MS Windows) look for Phonon and set "dummy" on the bottom of the list. Or if possible remove the 2 not needed entries. This is on openSuSE 11.4 RC2 and in KDE4
