Description John Layt 2011-02-27 12:59:38 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.6.0)
OS: Linux

From a clean install I pointed KMail2 at my existing maildir folder (~/.Mail), which resulted in KMail2 showing all my previously read emails as unread. I'm told this is because the maildir resource does not read or write the maildir status in the message filename due to windows compatibility issues (the : in the filename). However this means that users on other platforms lose track of their mail status, and compatibility with other mail clients is lost.

The support should be copied from KMail1 and ifdef'ed out for Windows only.

The same goes for the filname for new messages itself which I'm told is currently not standards compliant and breaks compatibility with other mail apps.

Reproducible: Didn't try
