Objects on the sky map are drawn with their real angular sizes. For small objects it means that they are effectively invisible at low zoom because they are smaller than a pixel even if those objects are quite bright. Solution is draw object as pictogram if it's smaller than say 10 pixels. 

This solution brings another problem. Map will become to crowded with galaxies and probably asteroids. So some reasonable magnitude cutoff should be implemented.

I think the current zoom in/out behavior is fine, it works the same way like Stellarium.
