Description jaeger1957 2011-02-10 02:19:01 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 1.2)
OS: Linux

OpenSuSE 11.1, KDE 4.1.3, release 4.11.1, krdc viewing WinXP host in view-only mode, Linux host using kate suddenly got paste buffer from WinXP host. krdc window did not have focus. Had been pasting a short string in kate a couple of times while making notes, suddenly got a paragraph from paste buffer of WinXP host, despite being in view-only mode.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Connect to remote WinXP host using VNC protocol.
Select view-only mode.
Open kate or any other text-entry area. (krdc no longer has focus)
On WinXP host, highlight and copy some text.
On Linux host, paste into text-entry area (editor, or whatever)
Past buffer from WinXP will be pasted on Linux host.

Actual Results:
After trying a few times, in each case the paste buffer from the WinXP host was pasted into the Linux application.

Expected Results:
When in view-only mode, I did not expect any interaction between the hosts' paste buffers. I wasn't aware that paste buffers could be shared even in active mode.

I have also seen this happen in reverse. I just tested, again in view-only mode, highlighted and copied some text in Linux, did paste on WinXP host, got text from Linux paste buffer.

You are right, clipboard is shared from server to client in view-only mode. If I remember correctly, it's not shared the other way around in view-only mode.

There is another report related to this: #170479.

I do not understand your last paragraph: How can you paste in the remote desktop if you do have a view-only session?

I'm primarily using KRDC to supervise my kids while they are doing homework on another PC, because they tend to play online instead of doing their work.

I can confirm that the shared clipboard does work in BOTH directions when in view-only mode; that's how I discovered the problem the first time. While testing, I had my kid do the remote paste after I'd done a copy on the local end. Conversely, I had my kid do a copy on the remote PC and then I did a paste on my local laptop. It definitely works in both directions, when it should not work at all.

Thanks,
Alan
