Hey, first-off, love kstars- I cant think of any way it could be improved. Good stuff
I gather the bug reporting and the wishlist use the same forms?

My question.

Would there be any way to automatically generate an image from Kstars, say every 20 mins, to be stored with the same image name?

I ask, because I got the (rather nifty) xplanetfx desktop- which updates the desktop picture every 20 mins with a picture of the earth, from orbit, clouds and moon included. I thought it'd be a marvellous addition, to be able to put an accurate picture from Kstars as the backdrop.

Im not a coder or developer, or anyone with any knowledge of how this stuff works, so forgive me if it's just a silly idea.

You should be able to do something like this :

kstars --dump --filename backgound.png --width 1024 --height 764 (see kstars --help)

BUT, I have tested : it works with the version installed with my distribution (Debian SID) and it crash  with the trunk version.
Also, there isn't options to set location, focus position or projection to use.

Heym, ace- thanks for the reply. So the functionality was there, i just didnt know how to us it. Thanks. Turns out the developer of xplanetfx has acted on my sugestion and added the functionality to his programme.
Thank you for showing me this though- may yet come in useful...
